The timely intervention of lifeguards from the Salvadoran Red Cross prevented a 25-year-old girl from being swept away by returning waves on El Majahual beach, in the department of La Libertad, and from becoming part of the statistics of people who die from immersion asphyxiation. .
The lifeguards were alerted that a woman in an apparent drunken state was on the beach and could no longer stand, making her a strong candidate for a return wave to sweep her away and endanger her life.
The woman was identified as Brenda P., 25 years old, who was taken out on a stretcher and taken to the ranch where her relatives were.
It was explained that she ignored the recommendations made by the relief and Civil Protection institutions, that they should not go into the sea if they are intoxicated.
