Liga Pro will delay its start due to the country’s insecurity

PRESENT

The start of the Pro League in Ecuador, which was originally scheduled for February 16, has been postponed until March 1.

The majority of the clubs that make up the Pro League decided to postpone the start of the 2024 competition

The decision was made during an extraordinary session of the Council of Presidents of the Pro League, convened by its president, Miguel Ángel Loor. The two-week postponement responds to the current situation in the country, marked by the State of Exception decreed due to the growing wave of insecurity. This context has led to modifying dates and canceling public events, including the start of the Ecuadorian Soccer Championship. The inaugural date, which originally announced the commitment between the champion Liga Deportiva Universitaria and Macará at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, will now be moved to March 1.

The decision to extend the waiting period is based on the need to guarantee the safety of players, coaching staff and fans, given the current circumstances. The postponement also means that the Pro League will continue during the FIFA dates designated for the national teams. This adjustment to the calendar seeks to accommodate changing conditions and ensure that the championship runs smoothly and without setbacks. During the session of the Council of Presidents, other important decisions were made. Antonio Álvarez was officially recognized as the new president of Barcelona SC, despite recent changes in the club’s leadership. In addition, the return of giant flags in stadiums was approved, a measure that will undoubtedly add a touch of color and fervor to the matches. Another of the decisions exposed is the one regarding Mushuc Runa, which will play its matches at the Bellavista stadium in Ambato as long as the matches have nighttime schedules.
