A load of 130 kilos of marijuana was discovered in a truck arriving at the port of Livorno from Spain: the drugs were seized and the driver of the articulated lorry, a 57-year-old Spanish man, arrested. The operation was conducted by the soldiers of the Livorno Financial Police and by the officials of the anti-fraud department of the Customs and Monopolies Agency thanks also to the drug-sniffing dogs of the Fiamme Gialle, Gera and Krios.
It was the intuition of Gera and Krios, it is explained in a joint note from GDF and ADM, that pushed financiers and customs officers to investigate further an articulated lorry that had just landed from Spain and was carrying bathroom accessories and rolls of fabric. Among this goods, 15 cardboard boxes were then discovered with around a hundred heat-sealed bags containing the narcotic inside. The drug, which would have fetched around 800,000 euros on the retail market, will now be destroyed in an incinerator.
Fiamme Gialle and Adm highlight how the port of Livorno confirms itself as “one of the favorite destinations for national and international organized crime dedicated to drug trafficking”. Two “significant cocaine seizures” were recently made for a total of 85 kilos.
