The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MinCiencias) announced on Tuesday the launch of a call for the formation of a high-level expert committee on artificial intelligence (AI). According to the entity’s statement, this group will be made up of Colombian professionals residing both abroad and in the national territory, covering various fields of knowledge and standing out for their extensive experience in the development, application and learning of AI.
The main function of the committee, according to the Ministry, will be to advise the National Government in the formulation of policies and strategies that promote technological advancement in the field of artificial intelligence. At the same time, this committee is expected to ensure ethics and inclusivity in the use of AI in Colombia. Likewise, it will be tasked with issuing recommendations that cover the use and development of AI in the short, medium and long term in the country.

The call, open to the participation of interested parties, is made through the link provided by the Ministry. Those who wish to contribute their experience and knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence may apply to be part of this expert committee.
President Gustavo Petro expressed through his social network account X the importance of the creation of this committee in the context of the accelerated advancement of the technological tool. «We are going to create the committee of experts on Artificial Intelligence in the country. I seek for Colombian society to gain capabilities to produce and control the developments of Artificial Intelligence in our territory,” said Petro.
With this initiative, Colombia seeks to strengthen its capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, taking advantage of the knowledge and experience of expert professionals in the field, with the aim of strategically positioning itself in the development and control of this technology in the country. The call represents a significant step in the construction of policies that promote technological advancement in an ethical and inclusive manner.
