After the trust and credibility that Morocco enjoyed under the royal leadership in Africa, and despite the suspicious – rotten – movements and counter-mobilization of the priests of the Mouradia Palace and South Africa, Morocco was able to crush the axis of evil, and was elected by an overwhelming majority as President of the United Nations Human Rights Council during the voting process that It took place yesterday, Wednesday, in Geneva, where Morocco not only obtained the absolute majority set at 24 votes, but also obtained 30 votes compared to 17 for South Africa…
It seems clear that the historic achievement achieved by Morocco by being crowned president of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva for the year 2024 clearly reflects the Kingdom’s position in the international human rights system and carries very important political messages, most notably the great support that the Kingdom enjoys, especially at the African and Arab levels.
Congratulations to Morocco continued from the United States, the League of Arab States, and the Arab Parliament, praising this achievement, which includes a direct reference to the Kingdom’s victory over South Africa and its allies on the continent, the first of which is Algeria, in the Moroccan Sahara file, which makes this victory a double victory and refers to the multifaceted successes it achieved. Morocco has been at the expense of its opponents in recent years.
Thus, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations in Geneva, Michelle Taylor, expressed her country’s commitment to continuing to work with Morocco to promote human rights throughout the world. She added in her tweet, “We are pleased to intensify our joint efforts aimed at promoting human rights at the global level.” In turn, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, congratulated Morocco through his account on the X platform, saying, “The result of the vote is an international recognition of Morocco’s continuing efforts in the field of consolidating human rights.”
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al-Assoumi, also congratulated the Kingdom of Morocco, its king, government, parliament and people, on the historic victory, and expressed his confidence that Morocco will be a strong voice defending human rights issues in Arab countries at the United Nations. For his part, French Senator Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, confirmed Defense and Armed Forces in the Senate said that Morocco’s election to chair the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2024 reflects the “very significant progress” that the Kingdom has achieved since King Mohammed VI ascended to the throne.
According to observers, the international recognition of the credibility of the reform led by the Kingdom in the field of human rights, as it is the first Arab and Maghreb country to assume the presidency of this vital council since its founding in 2006, came in the midst of what the State of Algeria knows of accumulations in its black human rights record, linked to serious violations, whether Through arbitrary arrests, detention, intimidation, attacks, and excessive use of force to disperse public gatherings, which affected unarmed citizens, journalists, trade unionists, bloggers, and activists defending human rights in Algeria.
This is in light of the successive reports from human rights and international organizations regarding the file of human rights violation scandals in a country ruled by a dictatorial military regime, the most recent of which was the black report published on the United Nations page, on human rights in Algeria, on the occasion of the conclusion of the visit made by the Special Rapporteur Marie-Lauror to the United Nations. During the period extending between November 25 and December 5 of this year, Algeria has placed itself before a fait accompli, to submit to the opinion of the majority of international human rights organizations, and to the highest international human rights organization headed by the honorable Kingdom of Morocco, in order to promote concrete reforms that concern the field of human rights in the country of the regional power.
