RIOLA SARDO. The Motocross World Championship stops in Sardinia next weekend. On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May the ‘Le Dune’ cross-track in Riola Sardo will host the fourth and last Italian test of the 2022 edition, with the news of the public along the track and of the women’s race. In the 1750 meters of sandy track, managed by the Motoclub Motor School Riola, the two-wheel champions are ready to put on a show.

In the premier class, the MXGP, is an open challenge to the ruler Tim Gajser, the current world record holder with 336 points. The Slovenian Honda HRC rider has won 6 of the 7 stages so far disputed, including the most recent last Sunday in the Italian Grand Prix, in Maggiora, Piedmont. With him there will also be his immediate pursuers, the French Maxime Renaux and the Swiss Jeremy Seewer, both riding a Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing. But the Dutch Glenn Coldenhoff and the Spaniard Ruben Fernandez should not be underestimated. Among the Italians the spotlight is on Alberto Forato, currently 10th in the general classification with his Gas Gas. Absent instead Jeffrey Herlings, Romain Febvre and Jorge Prado. Moving on to MX2 in the standings, Belgian Jago Geerts leads on Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing, with his 291 points, but a battle is expected with the French and former world champion Tom Vialle, trailing by just 6 points and riding the Red Bull Ktm Factory Racing . The Venetian Mattia Guadagnini (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing), currently 7th in the ranking, is also expected to have a good race. There is also great curiosity in seeing the women of the WMX at work, who will experience their third race in Riola. The podium is currently a Dutch domination: Lynn Valk, of the Tuscan JK Racing Yamaha Team, leads the classification, followed by Nancy Van De Ven (Ceres 71 Racing) and Shana Van der Vlist (Ktm). Eighth was the first Italian, the Venetian Giorgia Blasigh (Ceres 71 Racing Yamaha). Finally, great competition is also expected in the European Championship, the EMX250: the Norwegian Cornelius Toendel (Fantic Factory Team Maddii) stands out with 124 points ahead of the Dutch Rick Elzinga (Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing) with 107. Ninth Andrea Bonacorsi, on Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing. The program starts on Saturday morning at 8.50 with free practice and official practice of the WMX and the European Championship. Only tests for the MX2 and MXGP instead. In the afternoon off to the races with the first heat for the Women’s World Championship and the European Championship, then the official tests of MX2 (16.25) and MXGP (17.10). On Sunday morning, the second round of the WMX and the European Championship will be held, as well as the warm-up for the MX2 and MXGP riders. The highlight is expected in the afternoon, with the two heats of the most important classes. At 2.15pm and 5.10pm the two rounds of the MXGP.
