New exercise park planned in Ebelsberg

An exercise park is to be built on an area next to the Afritschweg children’s outdoor pool in Ebelsberg. Sports officer Vice Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP) announced this today on the sidelines of a press conference. The tender is currently being prepared and construction is scheduled to begin in the fall due to deadlines. The budget includes 200,000 euros for the exercise park. An exercise park is a type of outdoor fitness center and is suitable for people of all ages. In 2022, the city of Linz and the state of Upper Austria opened a new exercise park near the Kleiner Weikerlsee.

Health and sports survey

The need for such outdoor facilities was determined in the Linz health and sports survey in 2022, the results of which were presented in March 2023. In addition to the Linz health indicator, these are the basis for developing a health and sports strategy for the city.

The start of developing the sports strategy took place last week. The aim is to redefine the sports development plans from 2003 and 2012 and also to provide space for innovations. This is followed by monthly workshops on a total of five predefined topic areas, in which, in addition to city employees, external experts and other actors from the local sports landscape are involved. Possible topics range from the still high demand for outdoor sports facilities to a more efficient rental system for sports halls to cooperation with housing associations. “Our goal is to finalize Linz’s sports and exercise strategy by 2025 and present it to the public,” says Hörzing.

Health sector is examined

In parallel to sports, the city is also working on a health strategy that clearly sets out where the city’s health offering and, in particular, developments in the city’s health department should be directed. The aim is to take up and further develop the health goals of the city of Linz from 2002 and 2012. The start of this took place today. The process is similar to that of sports strategy. Five workshops on specified topics are scheduled to take place by autumn 2024, and a presentation of the results is planned for the first half of 2025. “Never before has the health sector in Linz been examined from so many perspectives by a wide range of experts. The health service for the population of Linz will be further expanded, modernized and modernized,” says City Councilor for Health Michael Raml (FP).
