Norwegian expelled for assaulting Migration official

For incurring violence against a public servant, Migration Colombia will expel the citizen Maria Michaela Bagherian, of Indian origin and Norwegian nationality, for which, it advances the respective procedures with the Norwegian Embassy.

According to the report of the facts, the physical and verbal aggression against one of the officials occurred on July 5 at 8:00 p.m. at the El Dorado Airport, when the Colombian Migration officer was providing guidance to colleagues from the Aeronautics Civil, who consulted her about the validity of the documents presented by the foreign citizen, since they did not understand them and that she was excited.

The attack against the official occurred when she tried to explain the situation to the traveler, since she said that she would only speak to someone from Immigration and in English.

The officer clarified the conditions for going to Central America -where he intended to travel- and the requirements for leaving for the United States. She even informed him about the possibility of calling her Embassy, an alternative to which she was upset. After her, the foreigner rushed to take the official’s passport and at that moment she hurt her hand and scratched her chest.

The assailant was arrested in flagrante delicto by the Police and presented to the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, where it was determined that the conduct did not warrant an intramural measure.for which she was made available to the Police again, who handed her over to Migration Colombia for her expulsion.

Meanwhile, the foreign citizen has been guaranteed her rights and has been provided with food. She has also received a medical evaluation by Airport Health, while the administrative and consular process is completed, to make the expulsion measure effective.

For the General Director of Colombian Migration, Fernando García Manosalva, any type of aggression and violence against our officers is absolutely inadmissible. “We welcome foreigners with open arms, but they must respect the authorities and comply with Colombian regulations as in any country in the world,” pointed out.

The expulsion will prevent the Norwegian citizen from returning to Colombia for 10 years and, if she wishes to return, she must apply for a visa. There is no appeal against this decision by Colombian Migration.

It’s not the first time

The Norwegian citizen had previously approached the airlines, each time with a different story, with the intention of traveling to the United States. However, they had not let her board because she did not have the required visa to enter that country or a return ticket.
