As a sign of solidarity with migrants stranded at all European borders and against indifference, the EuropaNow! resumes the appeal launched by Father Ercole Ceriani to light a green lantern in the window on 25 December, in the wake of Polish citizens who hang them at the entrance of their homes to help the desperate, hungry and hunted down on the border with Belarus. Starting December 17, 2021, EuropaNow! it will distribute green lanterns and European flags on the street to remind us that the defense of human rights and dignity after the tragedies of the twentieth century are the foundation of the European Union and to affirm that no policy can justify people dying at our borders.
The first appointment is set in Rome for December 17th from 3 pm to 7 pm in Largo Argentina. Two other principals will follow in the capital on 18 December in via Appia 460 in front of the Happio shopping center (from 11 to 17) and on 23 December in Piazza del Popolo in front of the Santa Maria dei Miracoli church of Father Ceriani (from 11 to 17 17).
“Draw the borders of the Union today and you will have a map of blood and tragedy. From the border with Belarus, from Lesbos to the English Channel, from the Balkan route to Lampedusa, thousands of people fleeing conflict, torture or misery often suffer, disappear or die without burial ” denounces Eric Jozsef, co-founder of EuropaNow! he adds «along these borders, however, you will also find the trail of generosity of individuals who offer hospitality and shelter to people. The green lanterns are intended to testify closeness to migrants and gratitude to these European fellow citizens who reject indifference ». The campaign “Let’s give light to solidarity for refugees stranded at the borders of Europe” was launched by the daily Avvenire and picked up, among other things, by the weekly L’Espresso.
