Operations in Caño Sur and Rubiales are normalized after agreement with communities – news

Ecopetrol began the reestablishment of its operations in the Caño Sur field, after an agreement was reached with the communities that had blocked since February 2 several points on the road that connects the urban area of Puerto Gaitán with the Rubiales village, in the department of Meta.

Since February 3, Ecopetrol participated in the dialogue tables led by social and community organizations in the region, together with the Vice Ministry for Social Dialogue, Equality and Human Rights; the National Hydrocarbons Agency; representatives of the departmental government of Meta; and other oil companies that operate in the area.

The community that carried out the protest demanded the start of paving works on 43 kilometers of the road between Alto Neblinas and the Rubiales village.

As part of the agreements that were reached, Invías will be asked to begin the pre-contractual and contractual process for the paving of point 6+500, which includes a stretch of 8 kilometers.

Likewise, the Mayor’s Office of Puerto Gaitán will contribute an additional 40 billion pesos for the paving of the road. For this section, Ecopetrol will contribute 42 billion pesos, which will be executed through an agreement with the Mayor’s Office of Puerto Gaitán.

The resources provided by Ecopetrol are framed in the provisions of the framework agreement signed in 2022, already signed by the parties.

Ecopetrol proposed the formation of a technical team with the municipal mayor’s office, in order to work on a new cooperation agreement for the paving of the road.
