Several American owners of Tesla’s new electric Cybertruck have already found rust spots on their vehicles. That is remarkable, because the vehicle’s panels are made of stainless steel.

After the unveiling in 2019, the first Cybertrucks were only delivered in December last year due to delays and production problems. The cheapest version of the Cybertruck costs 60,000 dollars (more than 55,000 euros), but will not be launched until 2025. The two versions on sale now cost around $80,000 and $100,000.

One owner noticed that his new pickup truck was showing rust spots after just eleven days of use. “During the rain in Los Angeles, I noticed corrosion developing on the metal,” he explained. The owner said he took his truck to a Tesla service center and they washed the exterior to make sure the stains weren’t just “dirt particles” but were actually rust spots.

According to the owner, an employee at the service point stated that they had a procedure to solve the rust problem on the Cybertrucks, but that they did not yet have the tools to repair it immediately. On the same Tesla forum, an owner from California wrote that after picking up his Cybertruck and driving for more than two hours in the pouring rain, he had already found small orange rust spots on his brand new truck.
