The meeting of the upper house of Pakistan i.e. the Senate is going on in which 35 newly elected members of the Senate will take oath.

After the swearing in of the newly elected members, the chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate will be elected. Presiding Officer, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is presiding over the meeting.

41 newly elected senators have signed the roll of members after taking the oath of office in the Senate session. Two newly elected senators did not take the oath of office, Faisal Vawda and Maulana Abdul Wasi are among those who did not take the oath.

The Senate Chairman and Deputy Senate Chairman will be elected by secret ballot for which 85 senators will use their right to vote.

After the swearing in of the new members, the Presiding Officer, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate will issue the election schedule, after which the Senate Secretariat will issue the list of candidates participating in the election.

After the announcement of the candidates, there will be a secret ballot for the Chairman Senate and Deputy Chairman Senate.

The Chairman and Deputy Chairman will be elected by simple majority in the House.

The total number of members in the upper house is 96 while the current number of members is 85. Election Commission postponed the election on 11 seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Senate elections will be held on 11 seats of Peshawar after taking the oath of the members of the specific seats.

Senators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on Monday on this issue, in which the position was taken that the Senate is the upper house where the Chairman Senate and the Deputy Chairman Senate are elected through the Electoral College. goes As the Election Commission had stopped the Senate election in the Provincial Assembly due to non-swearing of 25 specific seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 senators of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are yet to be elected.

According to the Election Act, the election process of the Senate has not been completed yet. There are currently 85 members of the Senate while the total number of seats is 96 which will be completed by adding 11 seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PTI’s stand was that the election of Chairman Senate and Deputy Chairman should be stopped until the election process is completed and the selection of Senate seats in KP.

The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court had issued a notice to the Election Commission after holding a brief hearing on the matter.

What is the party position in the Senate?

The People’s Party has the highest number of 24 members in the Senate, followed by PTI 19, Muslim League-N 19, JUI 5 and MQM Pakistan 3.

The number of members of Balochistan Awami Party in the Senate is 4, the number of members of ANP is 3, independent members are 5 while BNP, National Party and Muslim League-Q have 1 senator each.

Which members will be sworn in?

People’s Party’s Rana Mehmoodul Hasan will take oath on the general seat from Islamabad, while Ishaq Dar of Muslim League-N will take oath on the technocrat seat from Islamabad.

Newly elected Senate members of Balochistan

JUI’s Ahmad Khan, independent candidate Anwarul Haq Kakar, ANP’s Emil Wali, National Party’s Jan Muhammad, People’s Party’s Umar Gurgej, Muslim League-N’s Syedal Khan and Shahzeb Durrani will take oath on general seats from Balochistan.

Muhammad Aurangzeb and Mossadegh Malik of PML-N will take oath on the technocrat seat from Punjab.

Muslim League-N’s Anusha Rehman and Bushra Anjum will take oath on the women’s seat.

Muslim League-N’s Khalil Tahir will take oath on the minority seat.

Newly elected members of Sindh Senate

People’s Party’s Masroor Ahsan, Dost Ali Jaisar, Ashraf Jatoi, Kazim Shah and Nadeem Bhutto, MQM Pakistan Amir Waliuddin Chishti, independent candidate Faisal Wauda will take oath on general seats from Sindh.

PPP’s Zameer Ghamro and Sarmad Ali will take oath on technocrat seat from Sindh.

People’s Party’s Qarat-ul-Ain Marri and Rubina Qaim Khani will take oath on the women’s seat. Ponjo will take oath on the minority seat of the Senate.
