Paraguay will formally present to Panam Sports the bid of Asunción as the host of the 2027 Pan American Games.

The president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), Camilo Pérez López Moreira, confirmed this Thursday the decision to nominate Asunción as the venue for the 2027 Pan American Games, after the candidacy was withdrawn to Barranquilla last week.

In a joint press conference with the minister of the National Secretariat of Sports of Paraguay, César Ramírez, Pérez López Moreira announced that the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, signed “the letter of intent” to present Asunción as a candidate to host the Panamerican Games.

“It is the beginning of a process that will possibly last a few months, but we are confident that Asunción can once again be a super venue for the next Pan American Games,” said Pérez López Moreira, who also added: “We are going with everything.” to get this headquarters.

López pointed out that Asunción has the “90% of the sports infrastructure built.” He also highlighted that the Paraguayan capital hosted the XII South American Games in October 2022 and was chosen as the venue in 2025 for the II Junior Pan American Games.

“We are an ideal partner today for Panam Sports to do the next games, since we are in a very nice process,” the leader stated.

For his part, Ramírez highlighted that Asunción has “the full support of the President of the Republic and the national government.” In that sense, he pointed out that Peña, who was sworn into office on August 15, ends his term in 2028.
