Pensioner in Dresden triggers SEK deployment

A pensioner triggered an operation by special police forces in Dresden’s southern suburb on Sunday. Officials initially visited the 79-year-old in his apartment on Budapester Strasse in the morning because there was an arrest warrant against him, as the Dresden Police Department announced. But the man didn’t want to open his door and threatened to use a firearm.

After a check showed that he had a small firearms license, the police then secured the area. In addition, special forces from the Saxony State Criminal Police Office were requested. An LKA negotiating group contacted the 79-year-old. The officers were finally able to convince him to come out of the apartment, the police said.

During the search of the apartment, a blank-firing revolver was seized. The man ultimately paid the financial demands from the warrant. He is still being investigated for threats. The police said he also received a warning about whether he was a threat.
