After leaving the Prosecutor’s Office she was in the Supreme Court, where she was an assistant magistrate of the Criminal Cassation Chamber and worked with the current Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, in cases like the one that investigated the links between parliamentarians and paramilitaries (the so-called parapolitics).
He also worked between 2013 and 2019 with him in the International Commission against impunity in Guatemala (CICIG), of which Velásquez was commissioner.
Camargo was head of the Investigation and Litigation department, when numerous acts of corruption and congressmen in the Central American country were investigated.
He will replace Francisco Barbosa, whose term ended more than a month ago and was the prosecutor chosen in 2020 from a shortlist proposed by then-president Iván Duque, of whom he was a close friend.
