Undue access to devices suitable for communicating with detained subjects, aggravated personal injury and violence and threats to a public official.
For these crimes, two inmates of the Sulmona prison (L’Aquila) were sentenced at the end of an abbreviated trial, celebrated before the judge for preliminary hearings, Alessandra De Marco. One year and ten months for one defendant and one year and eight months for the other. The facts date back to 25 October 2022 when, during routine checks, the two inmates were discovered with three mobile phones in their cell. Caught in the act of committing a crime, they reacted and beat five prison police officers who ended up in the emergency room. One of the officers, who is still on sick leave due to the consequences of the attack he suffered, has filed a civil claim and filed a complaint. This affair sparked a broader investigation which led to the seizure of twenty mobile phones behind bars and the arrest of a prison officer, accused of having introduced three handsets into prison. The latter asked to negotiate the sentence before the preliminary hearing judge of the Sulmona court.
