The Attorney General’s Office reported that it has accepted the impediment presented by Víctor Salcedo, 12th prosecutor delegated to the Supreme Court of Justiceto continue the investigation against former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez, who faces accusations for the alleged crimes of bribery of witnesses and procedural fraud.

In an official statement, the Prosecutor’s Office stated: “After carrying out the legal assessments on the document presented by the 12th prosecutor delegated to the Supreme Court of Justice, in which he stated that he was prevented from addressing the study of the process being followed against the former president of the Republic, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, for the crimes of bribery of witnesses and procedural fraud; “The Attorney General of the Nation found one of the legal grounds established and declared the impediment formulated to be founded.”

With this determination, the file is sent to the coordinator of the Delegated Prosecutors Unit before the Supreme Court of Justice, who will assign the case to the delegated prosecutor who is on duty. as established in Law 906 of 2004 and the General Process Code. Thus, the criminal report against former President Uribe will continue its processing under the direction of a new prosecutor.

The new prosecutor first delegated to the Supreme Court of Justice, Gilberto Iván Villarreal Pava, will have a period of 90 days to define whether to call a trial or if to request for the third time the preclusion of the process against former President Uribe. This decision marks a new chapter in the legal process that has generated great interest in public opinion, given the importance of former President Uribe in Colombian politics.
