In the past it managed the Edelweiss but the owner did not want to renew the rental contract of the local historian
DANTA DI CADORE. From the bar, which he has managed for almost a quarter of a century, to the traditional and only grocery store in the town: for Raffaella Mattea di Danta this has been a year of great changes. And the country also appreciated its willingness to keep one of the key public establishments open for the entire population.
«I managed the Edelweiss bar in Danta for 24 years, starting from 1997 until 18 June 2021, with my sister Marina», says Raffaella Mattea, «supported in the first years by our parents Mosè and Caterina Doriguzzi. We have served and entertained many generations of young and old with our evenings and our parties. Then when the contract expired the owners no longer wanted to renew, I don’t know why. They will have had other projects ».
How did you go on?
«We had also passed the months of closure caused by the pandemic because, fortunately, in addition to the bar, a few years ago we had taken the license of the State Monopolies, salts and tobaccos, which we did not want to lose; and then we were also the resale of bread ».
And what happened after that?
“One day my accountant called me and told me there was an opportunity to take over the only remaining grocery store in Danta. The owner wanted to retire and there was a real risk of closure. At this point my sister decided to take another path, while I thought that, if I did not accept, I would lose, in addition to my job, also the license for tobacconists and the Lotto game. So I decided to dive into this new adventure. And so on June 18 we closed the Edelweiss bar, very reluctantly in truth, especially for the many memories that bound us to that reality; we cleared the whole place, because the furniture was ours; and then my partner Marco and I, who helps and supports me in this new adventure, worked for two weeks to fix and give a new life to this shop ».
When did you leave?
«On July 9, very tired but happy. For the summer I was joined by a young university student, Claudia Maddalin, who already worked in the summer season at the bar with us, and luckily I have her with regard to the technical part (cash register, suppliers, invoices, etc. ) and not only that: she was really of great help to me ».
What do they say in the village?
“We really had a very good reception from people, residents and tourists; and then there is always something to learn and I certainly do not lack the desire to do ».
