ROMANO CANAVESE

Too many undifferentiated waste in Romano: the focus is on orange bags to improve the situation and for those who do not comply, fines will be triggered.

The Municipality of Romano must, at the urgent request of the Canavesana Servizi Company (SCS), reduce the per capita quantity and improve the level of subdivision of the unsorted waste produced in its municipal territory. The request for greater waste separation came from the SCS to the Roman administration since the Municipality has exceeded the average per capita annual quantity of the separate waste collection and must improve it if it wants to avoid an increase in disposal prices that would spread over all the users of Romano.

So in recent days the mayor Oscarino Ferrero has issued an ordinance and the Municipality has already started an information campaign, with the publication of a detailed list of waste and the criteria and methods of their disposal. The Municipality is taking concrete steps to achieve the goal. The first step is that, starting from November 1, 2021, users are obliged to use the orange bags, transparent and inspectable, for the disposal of unsorted waste. There will be administrative sanctions for offenders and further trouble if the fact constitutes a crime. The amount of the sanctions will be established in a specific provision that will be taken by the municipal council.

“We have already set for Wednesday 1 September 2021 the first meeting with the population, probably in the municipal hall of the former Mulino di Cascine di Romano – says the municipal councilor for ecology Gialuca Lalli – to inform all Romans on the appropriate use of orange bags for unsorted waste with the type of waste it can contain, to avoid an increase in disposal costs by the SCS. Starting from then – added Lalli – the distribution of transparent orange bags will begin to all users, who will then be able to collect their bags in the Municipality, for the indicative use of one a week, to start using them and, in case of necessity we will provide to directly deliver the bags door to door for those who are not able to collect them personally ».

The sanctions for non-compliant will start from 1 November, but the control of the contents of the orange bags will be done already in October: “Starting from the beginning of October – explained the mayor Oscarino Ferrero – who will not have divided properly and will have inserted waste not allowed in the orange bag, you will be invited, with a personal notice, to collect your bag and arrange for the correct division of your unsorted waste. The incorrect production of undifferentiated waste requires an expensive selection procedure before its disposal and we must therefore return to achieving a better quality of undifferentiated collection if we want to avoid an increase in waste collection costs that would weigh on everyone’s bills “.
