RTL: Christian Polanc had suspicions

The first dance couples have already said goodbye to “Let’s Dance” from the show. Model Eva Padberg, comedian Maria Clara Groppler and entrepreneur Tillmann Schulz have already had to leave the RTL show. But do the worst and most unpopular dancers actually leave the show week after week?

“Let’s Dance”: Accusations against RTL because of video clips

Above all, the end of Maria Clara Groppler and her dance partner Mikael Tatarkin caused a lot of discussion. The comedian then made allegations against the broadcaster RTL on Instagram.

It was mainly about the clip, which summarizes the candidates’ training week and often provides insights into the celebrities’ emotional world. But is the truth being told here? “The clips only showed moments in which I was silly,” complained Maria Clara Groppler on Instagram. Her hard work would not have been shown, she says, making the film at least indirectly responsible for her departure.

In the comments on the “Let’s Dance” Instagram channel, some users write that they perceived the comedian as unprofessional and that she therefore did not fit in with the show.

Does RTL control the “Let’s Dance” rating via music?

Professional dancer Christian Polanc, who will not be taking part in the RTL broadcast in 2024, has also experienced that the players gave a different impression of the week than he perceived them, he says in his podcast “Let’s talk about Dance”. But he also points out that it is fundamentally difficult to summarize a whole week in two minutes and to reproduce it correctly.

But what about music? “Let’s Dance” viewers repeatedly criticize music that is inappropriate for dancing. “Often you’re just playing around to some bad music and it still doesn’t come across as cool, while others just stand there and just look at each other while listening to beautiful music,” says Christian Polanc.

„Let’s Dance“-Profi Christian Polanc: Music is a factor

But RTL decides which music celebrities and professional dancers appear on the “Let’s Dance” stage to. “We have no opportunity to have a say in anything,” says Christian Polanc. The professionals could make requests at the beginning of the season, but there is no guarantee. Christian Polanc has experienced music being exchanged perhaps three times in his 15 years of “Let’s Dance”. There is an exception for the “Magic Moment” and the freestyle in the final. There is a greater say, says the dancer.

“I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything, but it definitely controls. People have a different feeling when there is music they know and people sing along with,” says Christian Polanc. For Christian Polanc, the audience’s evaluation is ultimately an interplay of dance, music, players and the people on the dance floor.
