ROME. No glimmer for peace during the Draghi-Putin phone call. The premier said this during the press conference after the Council of Ministers. And after the meeting with the Russian president, he now announces a similar phone call to President Zelensky.
Draghi says: “I looked for President Putin to ask if something could be done to unblock the grain that is now in deposits in Ukraine: the food crisis that is approaching, and is already present in some African countries, will have gigantic proportions and consequences terrible humanitarians “. The goal of our prime minister’s mediation is “to see if cooperation between Russia and Ukraine is possible on the unblocking of the Black Sea ports where huge quantities of grain are stored,” he says. Collaboration that passes from the need to “de-mine ports and ensure that no attacks on the de-mining period take place”. From President Putin “there has been a willingness to proceed in this direction”, says the Prime Minister, who however adds a “we hope” to the announcement. On the matter, Putin replied that “the ports on the Black Sea are blocked, because they have been undermined by the Ukrainians”. «Of course – Draghi points out to the press – they were mined by the Ukrainians to prevent Russian ships from attacking Ukraine. This is why I say that collaboration must be on the one hand to mine these ports, on the other hand to ensure that no attacks take place during the demining period ”. The issue of guarantees has not been explored for a long time between Draghi and Putin, “but clearly – says the premier – it will be a question to be explored if things go ahead, because it may be an attempt that will not succeed”.

The long day of the premier
“It was a very intense day and all in all positive for the government and the country,” says Draghi, moving on to questions of internal politics and economics. «In the morning I had an excellent meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Many agreements have been signed: from energy to micro enterprises to financial information and a long list of projects that can be undertaken together have been examined. A series of opportunities emerged from the conversation for the companies of our country and a great opening by the president to a much more extensive collaboration ».
“Cdm positive, June objectives will be achieved”
Draghi then spoke about today’s meeting on the CDM at Palazzo Chigi. “We had a positive meeting: we reviewed the objectives of the NRP which must be achieved by the end of June and we made a review of where we are.” The premier said he was “very calm about the achievement of these objectives”, which – he stresses – “will all be achieved”. On the fiscal delegation “we are close to an agreement, the government program goes on and on well”.
