Sardinia between new infections and mini lockdowns, what is happening

by admin

The “Covid free island” truce is suspended as well as the normal activities in two small municipalities closed due to the health emergency. In Sardinia, probably due to the spread of the Delta variant, infections from Covid-19 are growing. In the last few days there have been 384 new cases, three admissions to intensive care and two deaths.

Growth of 202 percent

The data relating to the monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation are not comforting. In the week 7 to July 13, the increase was 202.7 percent compared to the previous one when it reached a plus 22 percent. A deterioration second only to Molise which registers a percentage of 271 percent. The monitoring shows an increase for the currently positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which amounted to 159 from 143 in the previous period. The only positive data comes from hospitals: below the saturation threshold the beds in the medical area (even if the occupancy of beds with Covid patients goes from 2 to 3%) and intensive care, always on 0% (only one patient hospitalized in the whole island).

Countries in Lockdown

Since yesterday the emergency has started in Serrenti, a town of just over 4,000 inhabitants, in the Medio Campidano, about forty kilometers from Cagliari. The number of positives grew by 21 units and those of people in quarantine rose to 211. A situation that prompted the mayor to issue an ordinance which imposes “the suspension of all cultural, musical, recreational and sporting events up to to new order “. All authorizations and clearances have also been suspended until the end of the emergency. Curfew for public places has been restored. Bars, restaurants and parks will be closed from 11pm to 5am the next morning. The provision prohibits gatherings in public places. Private parties are also prohibited both indoors and outdoors. Stop to “all forms of entertainment in the outdoor areas of bars, pubs, public entertainment venues and the like”. For these days the municipal offices are closed to the public, the administrative activity will take place by reservation. Same restrictions until next week, that is until the expiry of the ordinance in Usini, a town with about 4,300 inhabitants, in the Sassarese where there are 14 positives and over 40 people in quarantine.

The data of the Bulletin

The latest bulletin of July 15 issued by the Region records 112 new infections (compared to 135 the previous day). Overall, on the island, the number of Covid-19 positives rises to 57,913. A total of 1,428,053 swabs were performed, for an overall increase of 5,620 with a positivity rate of 2 percent. In the last two days there were also two new deaths, which reached 1,494 in total. As for hospital admissions, there were 42 patients in the medical area (-6 compared to the previous report) and 3 in intensive care (+2).

The hypotheses under study

“In today’s monitoring – explains the Region of Sardinia – there is the result of a realignment between the ISS database and the data present in the information flow of the Ministry of Health and Civil Protection, which changes the total number of healed and people in home isolation: currently 1,219 people are in home isolation and 55,155 are cured (+1,528 following the realignment of the data) “. Meanwhile, measures are expected from the Region to address the situation. Among the hypotheses being examined by the public administration an intensification of checks and tampons in airports. And an appeal for behavior to be marked by the utmost prudence.
