School, from Monday 7.6 million in class. Exceptions to the 70% threshold for high school students

by admin

The new rules on school attendance established by the government in the Covid decree on reopening bring at least 7.6 million pupils to the classroom from Monday 26 April: in the yellow and orange area all elementary and middle school children will be among the desks, while for the higher the attendance will be at least 70% and up to 100%. In the red zone, however, they will all be present up to the eighth grade, while in high school the activity in class will take place at least at 50%.

Difficulties in large centers

The variability concerns high schools because in some regions and cities the decree will not be respected: for many school managers it is difficult to reconcile the presence of at least 20-25 children in the classroom (especially in large cities with large classes and small classrooms) with the rules of the Scientific Technical Committee on distancing and with the safety protocols signed in recent months. “Only those who do not have the slightest knowledge of the complexity of the school organization can think of deciding the percentages of school attendance on Friday evening – if not Saturday evening – for Monday morning” said the president of the National Principals Association, Antonello Giannelli .

Locatelli (Cts): Regions implement government choices

An invitation to the Regions to abide by the government’s choices on school and return in the presence of students comes from the President of the Higher Health Council Franco Locatelli. The coordinator of the Scientific Technical Committee says he “understands the concerns” of the presidents “but at this moment we can allow ourselves a margin to reopen some activities” and therefore it would make no sense not to reopen the schools as well.

In Naples, 70% derogation on attendance in the classroom

Campania will return to the orange band but not all high schools in Naples will bring almost all students back to the classroom: some institutions have decided to keep 50% of students in attendance. Decision taken also by virtue of the ordinance issued by the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, which allows school managers to reach 50% of the teaching in attendance “if the application of the guidelines of the Ministerial Decree n.39 / 2020 is incompatible “. And so the high school circulars issued by the managers in many cases confirm the procedures already in force in the week that has just ended.

Lazio: a week to adapt

Lazio also returns to the yellow band but it is very likely that at least for Monday and for a few days of next week many high schools in Rome will maintain the attendance percentages of recent days, or 50%, without being able to adapt it to the new threshold established by the Government. There was not enough time to organize themselves differently, is the motivation of the school leaders. Moreover, the same circular issued by the regional school office specifies that “as soon as possible, in any case in the week from 26 to 30 April, the increase in school time in attendance must be implemented”. No obligation to leave on April 26th.
