Shortly before nine o’clock there were six accidents, first at the Moers intersection. After heavy hail, the road there turned into a slide. Drivers lost control of their vehicles, which, among other things, crashed into the guardrails. A little later, similar accidents occurred on the A42, A46 and A1 in the Wuppertal area.
There was also heavy hail there, and aquaplaning was apparently also causing problems for drivers. In total, there were 25 accidents from the Lower Rhine to the Bergisches Land, with one person being slightly injured.
Six children injured in black ice accident
Another accident occurred in the morning in Erndtebrück in the Wittgenstein district – six children and one adult were injured. According to the police, the 35-year-old driver’s car left the road due to slippery conditions and the lack of winter tires and crashed into a tree. The driver and a seven-year-old girl were seriously injured in the collision. Four boys between the ages of five and eleven were slightly injured. A two-year-old boy was classified as seriously injured due to his young age.
Fortunately, no one was trapped and the people were rescued without any major complications. There was material damage amounting to 30,000 euros. The B62 was completely closed for two hours.
