Sports milestones marked Monagas! Governor Ernesto Luna classified the year 2023 as historic for Monaco sports, with results that show the sum of 455 medals in different championships, the participation of more than 250 thousand young people in sports activities and the rehabilitation of 52 fields, through Inframonagas and the communal power.

Added to these achievements is the rehabilitation of the sports corridor made up of the El Furrial, La Candelaria, El Corozo and San Vicente sectors; thanks to the joint work of Seniat, the Government of Monagas and the Mayor’s Office of Maturín, with the aim of encouraging sports practice among the youth of the different communities in the west.

Under the same premise, Luna rehabilitated the sports corridor of the Alto de Los Godos parish, which includes the multi-use fields adjacent to Plaza Guanaguanay, the “Las Comunales” baseball stadium and the table tennis court complex, with the sights set on the new generation of Monaco athletes.

Under the motto “we are going to change everything” in 2023, from the Monagas State Sports Institute (Indem), in alliance with Transmonagas, 1,707 athletes from 21 sports disciplines were mobilized to 79 events, for an achievement of 169 gold medals, 152 silver and 134 bronze, totaling 455 medals, with greater scope in the disciplines of weightlifting, kenpo, swimming and wrestling.

Likewise, in 2023 a total of 87 Monaco athletes participated in national team camps and became Venezuelan ambassadors in different sports categories. The international achievements total 28 gold medals, 22 silver and 13 bronze, for a total of 63 medals that include 11 medals obtained by people from Monaco in the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Likewise, in 2023, programs such as “Olympic Hope” were promoted, aimed at recruiting and promoting potential boxing athletes in vulnerable sectors, and “I develop my skills” launched in five educational centers, for a total of 3,194 children and girls and adolescents served.

In a year of unprecedented achievements, the Department of Sports for All served nearly 160 thousand people in the 13 municipalities of the entity.

In 2023, Monagas achieved the formation of 250 sports clubs, as well as the activation of medical services: physiatry, therapy, cardiology, ultrasound, and general and internal medicine, where 1,926 athletes were treated.

In 2024, sport in Monagas began with excitement and faith, after the confirmation of Maturín as the venue for the first Vinotinto game, this year in the South American qualifiers, heading towards the 2026 World Cup dream.

In addition, this year, Monagas will seek to enter the top 5 states with the greatest sports participation, and will also have the challenge of becoming the sub-host of the 2024 National Youth Games.
