IVREA. Trenitalia has revised the closing times of the Ivrea-Aosta railway section to allow for a series of modernization and safety interventions, reducing them from 28 to 16 days. The traffic stop, initially scheduled from 14 June to 11 July, will start on Friday 19 June and will end on Sunday 4 July.

The regional trains, scheduled to run in these 16 days, will be replaced with buses by the railway company in agreement with the Valle d’Aosta Region, while the connections to and from Turin will terminate at the Ivrea station. The buses have been organized in order to guarantee the connection in Ivrea with trains to and from Turin. Some experimental runs have also been planned with a direct route between Aosta and Ivrea, without intermediate stops, in order to mitigate the inconvenience for commuters who make longer journeys and at more inconvenient times. «The period for carrying out the work has been expressly chosen – communicates the Transport Department – so that it falls after the end of the school and before the high tourist season. To ensure compliance with the filling coefficients of the buses provided for by the rules for combating the pandemic, a very high number of vehicles will be required, with peaks of 104 daily trips ».

RFI has planned several construction sites along the route, for a total investment of 11 million euros. In particular, technological updating will be carried out which will improve the automatic systems present on the line to support traffic, 8 switches will be replaced in various locations of the section, 12 km of line will be renewed with the replacement of tracks and sleepers as well as the elimination of three passages. level in the municipality of Strambino and the extraordinary maintenance of the lighting system in the stations of Hone Bard and Verres.

The construction sites will, however, be preceded by a phase of preparatory activities, which began last Friday, and which will continue at night until 17 June, for which it will be necessary to cancel and replace a pair of regional trains on the Aosta – Ivrea route by bus. A final phase foresees completion works that will take place from 5 to 16 July, again at night, with three pairs of trains that will be replaced with buses in the Aosta-Ivrea section until 11 July, which will drop to one from 12 to 16 July. .

In fact, at the request of the Vda Region, the demolition and reconstruction of the metal girders of three bridges are postponed until the electrification works (110 million euros) begin: that of Ivrea, that of Hône-Bard and the one between Montjovet and Châtillon.
