Biden-Putin summit, US executive jokes: “They certainly won’t have tea”

Joe Biden (Ansa)

Washington, June 15, 2021 – Will there be a meeting with Putin? “Well … definitely not tea”, the joke that hides a dig at the Kremlin is from a US administration executive speaking of tomorrow’s summit in Geneva between Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin.

The curtain: a reporter insisted asking if in the 4-5 hours of the summit between the two leaders there would be no time to share a meal or tea. The prompt response from the Washington executive (“Well … definitely not tea”) aroused the laughter of the reporters that they immediately thought of a reference with polonium tea with which former Russian spy Aleksandr Litvinenko was poisoned, and to the suspected case of Alexiei Navalny, perhaps he too was a victim of the same ‘correct’ drink, probably from Russian agents.

So tomorrow first Vladimir Putin and then Joe Biden are expected at Villa La Grange in Geneva, at 1pm local time, for the first face to face between the two leaders, White House sources report.
