10 tugs sent to clear the container carrier
(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 27 – The giant container carrier Ever Given, which has been stranded in the Suez Canal for four days, could be released today. This is the wish of the Japanese shipowner Yukito Higaki, president of the company Shoei Kisen, owner of Ever Given, writes the BBC online. Higaki said 10 tugs were sent to the site to dredge the embankments and the bottom of the canal.
The United States has also offered to send aid including a team of Navy experts.
Ever Given, 400 meters long and almost 60 meters wide, ran aground in the Suez Canal in the midst of a sandstorm, going sideways and completely obstructing it, forcing companies to divert their ships. The blockade has also created a traffic jam of over 200 ships stationary in the Red Sea.
However, according to Higaki, the container carrier could be released tonight (Tokyo time), as “work continues to remove sediment with the help of other dredging tools.” “The ship – he added – is not taking on water, the rudder and the propeller are working. Once cleared it should be able to leave”. (HANDLE).
