At 3.30 pm, in the parish church of San Grato, in Argentera, a populous hamlet of Rivarolo, the whole community will gather around the family to try to alleviate, in some way, the weight of the tragedy that took place on Saturday afternoon, in the street of Canton Clare , where the Vota have their home and farm, and where the young man worked. A rash gesture, the request for help, the arrival of the rescue volunteers, firefighters, carabinieri and the landing, a few minutes later, of the 118 helicopter. All useless. Fabio was already dead, hanged. And with him go the dreams, the hopes, the expectations that a boy like many has in life and that he confided to his closest friends, those who yesterday afternoon shuttled to the mortuary of the Ivrea hospital, where the body was composed.

An excruciating pain, which in the age of social networks, Facebook, Instragram, runs on the web, and is shared, feeding more pain, other suffering, because Fabio, as those who loved him remember him, was good, caring, disarming in his sweetness, ready to take care of those who turned to him in search of comfort, only for the desire, which is at the same time a need, to be of help to those who are asking for it. There is desperation, in these messages, there is the torment of not having been able to do more even for him, because undeniably, behind similar tragedies, there is a discomfort, a malaise, another pain, probably even greater, more frightening, the pain of the soul.

“Dear Fabio, you wanted so much to see the sea, because you told us you had never seen it, and we wanted to take you, but we couldn’t …” wrote a group of friends on Facebook posting a photo of a sunset on the sea that with the glare of the sun becomes pure gold. Here, the sea, a boundless space that refers to an indefinite time, where everything seems perfect, where everything is in peace, where everything is peace.

Fabio Vota leaves his mother Stefania, his father Maurilio, his brothers Marco and Luca, his grandparents Tonino, Margherita and Teresa. After the religious function, which will take place in compliance with the rules for the containment of the pandemic, the body will be buried in the cemetery of Argentera.
