At the end of the National Coffee Assembly that took place on April 3 and 4, the general manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers, Germán Bahamón, shared his perspective regarding the review that the National Government wishes to make on the methodology of costs, as well as the push for agroecology and the activation of the Price Stabilization Fund.

“If it is the desire of the National Government to carry out a review of the cost methodology that we built together and approved in the National Committee on December 21, that review is welcome, but it should not be a review that delays its activation or defers it to more speeches. , coffee growers on the verge of harvest need the support of the Government. We praise that the national government assumes the criteria that the Federation is following in an agenda democratically supported by coffee growers, and we express, once again, our willingness to work together for the benefit of the thousands of coffee growers who need concrete and timely solutions to overcome the difficult moment. that we are going through,” he expressed in a statement.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jhenifer Mojica, listened to and applauded the proposals of the coffee growers during the closing of the National Coffee Assembly. The 13 agreed points include:

1. Strengthen coffee associativity.
2. Create conventions for boys, girls, women and coffee lovers.
3. Activate the Coffee Price Stabilization Fund.
4. Implement a coffee agrarian reform.
5. Promote environmental services and productive diversification.
6. Transform the coffee ecosystem.
7. Democratize credit for coffee growers.
8. Strengthen marketing.
9. Define a differentiated agricultural extension.
10. Promote the regulation of nurseries and seeds.
11.Create incentives to manage risks.
12. Promote coffee tourism.
13. Take advantage of the Green Deal incentives through agroecological practices.

57 years of the Departmental Committee of Coffee Growers of Risaralda

On April 5, 1967, the Risaralda Coffee Growers Committee was born, a vital institution in the development of the department. In close collaboration with the Federation, the Committee has promoted important infrastructure projects, ranging from education to housing, sports venues, sewage and aqueducts. Jorge Humberto Echeverri, executive director of the Committee, expressed: “This is an institution that leaves its mark and that projects itself every day as a very important company in the coffee region.”
