The Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation into the Health Superintendent

The Attorney General’s Office has initiated a disciplinary investigation against the National Superintendent of Health, Luis Carlos Leal Angarita, for alleged irregularities in relation to the takeover and forced administrative intervention of the EPS Sanitas, as well as the appointment of its intervening agent, Dúver Dicson Vargas Rojas.

The opening of this investigation arises from a complaint filed against the Health Superintendencywhich questions the apparently false motivation stated in the resolution that ordered the intervention of the EPS.

The control body has requested Supersalud to deliver copies of the process carried out to take possession of the entity, as well as the procedure carried out to designate the intervening agent. In addition, data related to the number of complaints, claims and protections compared to the number of affiliatesas well as information on the debts contracted by the EPS with the network of providers and suppliers of health services, supplies and technology, among other evidence.

The Attorney General’s Office is carrying out an investigation to clarify any possible irregularities in this process and guarantee transparency and legality in the intervention of entities in the health system.

Regarding the interventions of the EPS Sanitas and La Nueva EPS, the superintendent mentioned: ““

This measure does not imply the closure of health services, nor the dismissal of workers who work in the intervened EPS (Sanitas and Nueva EPS). This measure is preventive to avoid liquidation and seeks to strengthen the EPS that have been intervened to guarantee and protect the right to health of Colombians throughout the national territory,” said Superintendent Luis Carlos Leal Angarita, and added “It is responsibility of the National Health Superintendence to guarantee that health resources reach where they should go and that second, the fundamental right to health is respected.”
