23 years ago, in the 20th century, he said goodbye, leaving the ideological war between communism, fascism and liberalism, the latter having triumphed by a landslide; In the first years of the 21st century, republican democracies, the free market, human rights and freedom were preparing to conquer the world, but as often happens, history played a bad trick on us, we had the turn of the century; Politics, far from being an intellectual and social task that works with people to solve their problems, has become a circus where what clowns do the least to entertain people, the opposite impoverishes them, disappoints them, betrays them, for example. That is, every day citizens do not believe in politics; this era of misinformation and lies; with an insufficient global economy, and with a shortage of credible leaders; Drug trafficking and corruption are taking over authoritarian governments and leaders, they are demolishing democracy and thus suffocating citizen freedoms.
The drama is that most of today’s politicians have the table of values inverted, giving priority to the forms and forgetting the content, they dedicate themselves to the superficial rather than the essence and to gain popularity, they lie and deceive blatantly and without beginning.
We are living in a Latin America, in which the poverty of its inhabitants is increasing again; But more serious is the impoverishment of ideas and the expansion of a culture that privileges the clever over the honest, frivolity over responsibility and impunity over respect for the law.
The discredit of politics is largely due to the moral decadence of the vast majority of politicians, to their directly criminal behavior, to their cynicism in abusing power.
The challenge of the 21st century is to restore shine and prestige to politics; rescue the traditions and values that Plato’s Greece taught us; Cicero’s Rome; the Enlightenment and the Renaissance of Montañe and Voltaire, founders of Western values and classical promoters of modernity; That’s right, the battle we must fight is cultural, in defense of the World Order.
