The Covid ward at the Cuorgnè hospital closes, staff transferred to Ivrea

The good news is that from today, Friday 15, the Covid ward of the Cuorgnè hospital will close. Given the low occupancy rate of the beds, it no longer makes sense to maintain a dedicated area for Covid shelters. From Wednesday 3 November, therefore, still in the hospital in Cuorgnè, day surgery will resume and this represents another small step back to normal health care after more than a year and a half of pandemic.

The news that leaves a little perplexing, however, is the relocation of nurses and social health workers of that department to the hospital of Ivrea where, underlines the general manager of ASL / To4 Stefano Scarpetta, “there are some situations of relative shortage to resignation or suspension due to vaccination failure ». The staff working in the Cuorgnè Covid ward were mainly those assigned to the emergency room, which closed at the end of last October, when the Cuorgnè hospital was transformed into a Covid-hospital. And at the moment, as the service has not yet been reactivated, the need to relocate the staff elsewhere has emerged.

Giuseppe Summa, territorial secretary of Nursind, union of the nursing professions, expresses a double clarification (of form and merit) on the communication sent on 13 October by the general manager Scarpetta. «In the meantime, we are sorry that the communication takes place after the decision has already been taken – he observes – without the important confrontation with the union, given that the information speaks of sharing with employees. But evidently, the word sharing has been confused with the word information ». “We are worried – he adds – the fact that a date is not indicated and there is no planning on the reopening of the emergency room in Cuorgnè, which we learn from the statements of the health department to be one’s will. We have repeatedly expressed how important it is that this emergency room is not closed and we would not want this to represent a first step in that direction ». The reason for the non-reopening of the emergency room is linked to the lack of urgent doctors. The ASL / To4 has just changed the company deed to activate two new primary for Ivrea and Ciriè and activated a European tender worth 21 million to find medical personnel.
