The Northern League deputy Mirco Badole has a trembling voice: with Paolo Saviane he lost a militant partner but above all a friend.
Badole and Saviane had found themselves together with the suitcase in hand and the ticket to Rome, in the spring of 2018. One for the Chamber, the other the Senate. And together they had faced the great leap towards national politics.
“I was just thinking back to those days,” says Badole, moved. “We were both quite worried about this new experience when the confirmation of the election arrived. But we took courage from each other. Then I was under pressure, I had recently become mayor of San Gregorio, I did not jump for joy for the new adventure. And I remember that I said to Paolo: “The positive thing is that we go there together, I’m happy to go to Rome with you” ».
Adventure companions in the political palaces, but also room neighbors in the first stays in Rome for the start of parliamentary activity, like two friends away. «The first few times we went to the same hotel», Badole recalls, «then we found ourselves to stay near their respective“ jobs ”, the Chamber and the Senate. Senators and deputies generally form separate groups, but Paolo and I met in the evening. And of course we were talking about politics ».
Politics and the League, the great passions common to Badole and Saviane. Passions that had triggered their knowledge, still about fifteen years ago. A relationship that had then become one of close friendship in 2015, at the time of the split in the League between Salvini and the Veronese Tosi.
«Until then Paolo and I had not really entered into confidence. But at that moment, when it seemed that the party in the province was going to disappear, with the provincial secretary Colle who had left, we found ourselves with Paolo, Franco Gidoni and Gianpaolo Bottacin and we loaded the party on our backs. And there, in those days when we felt constantly, knowledge became friendship ».
“Paolo is one of those friends that everyone would like to have, special people, rare to find”, even the League’s deputy Angela Colmellere, former mayor of Miane and also elected in Rome in the spring of 2018, mourns. A friend in the deepest sense of the term, present in the front row at his marriage with the regional councilor Gianpaolo Bottacin. “For my husband Paolo is almost a brother, for me a true friend,” says the Treviso parliamentarian. “We were lucky to have the friendship of a good, just and loyal person, full of things to give to others and also to his land”.
«We started our Roman experience together», he continues, «and this made us know even better, trying to work together for the territory and discussing the problems of the mountain. Paolo wanted to do concrete things for the Belluno area, something that would remain, not gossip. And he could compareburned with everyone without building walls, as today is very fashionable in politics ».
