The Gogliasso di Montalenghe area restarts from sport, four new touch tennis courts have been inaugurated, a variant of “traditional” tennis. The area, owned by the Municipality of Montalenghe, is located south of the municipal territory on the border with Orio and Foglizzo. It is an area characterized by small lakes and large green and wooded areas. In ancient times it housed a brick kiln which closed the activity in the early twentieth century, leaving the quarries dug to extract the clay which later filled with water forming the three large lakes that today characterize the area and other smaller marshy areas. The furnace had been the subject of a restoration work at the beginning of 2000, the then Peaquin Administration had tried to make it a tourist center and a camper area (with the help of the first European contributions). Unfortunately, after a few years of activity, the former furnace was unusable due to structural problems. For several years the area remained semi-abandoned. However, the famous Taverna Verde restaurant and the fishing lakes managed by the Gogliasso Association for over thirty years remain in the area.

But seven years ago, something started to move. A group of young entrepreneurs rented the communal land to create the “Locanda della Contea”, a pub and bed & breakfast themed from the Lord of the Rings era. They have launched a vast program of recovery and care of the naturalistic area, creating events and shows. Finally, this year the same entrepreneurs of the Locanda have always decided to create sports facilities in the area in front of the former furnace and at the beginning of June four touch tennis courts are already operational, managed by Marco Catalano and the Grande Slam Rackets association. . The first tournament of this discipline has already been organized on 30 July. Meanwhile, the administration of the mayor Rita Ladu has renewed the order of unusability of the furnace while waiting, however, to fix this structure too. «The projects for the Gogliasso area are not lacking – explains the first town Ladu – soon there will be other interesting realities and news for the area. Our intention is to return this area to citizens and users with tourist, recreational and sports services. The area has a lot of potential and we are determined to fully exploit them while respecting the environment and nature that characterize them ». In addition to the restaurant and the inn, the area hosts the ponds open to receptions and also for private individuals, as well as the headquarters of the tenth Bikers association of motorcyclists who are passionate about Harley Davidson and more. The Gogliasso area finally comes back to life with projects and a look towards the future. –
