With the reconstruction of the beaches from Mercatello to Pastena, in fact, seaside tourism has finally returned to this area of ​​the city, but the related services, such as parking lots, are scarce. Many people from Salerno are turning to these new beaches who previously went to the coast from Pontecagnano to Paestum to take a bath or even just sunbathe. Furthermore, there are many people who come from the municipalities of the province of Salerno, from Avellino and many also from Potentino.
The uncivilized in action. For many who go to the sea or take a walk along the seafront in the eastern area, there are no parking spaces and so it has become normal for them to stop on the pedestrian crossing, especially in via Leucosia, to leave their cars parked, especially on weekends, in the areas reserved for disabled people or in front of bus stops, where cars compete with trucks carrying goods to occupy the spaces, making it difficult at times to get on and off the buses. Fortunately, the driveways are still respected in most cases even if they too begin to not be taken into consideration.
The critical areas. Illegal parking is becoming a problem in the area that goes from the Polo Nautico towards via Leucosia and via Generale Clark, but uncivilized stops are also beginning to be seen in the internal roads towards via Trento and via Posidonia. The situation is worse, even if due to problems of high concentration of shops, it is in the area between via Santa Margherita, via Giovan Battista Amendola and the first part of via Rocco Cocchia or via Madonna di Fatima and via Ventimiglia and adjoining crossroads. In these latter areas, however, the problem of denied parking is constant at any time of day or night, because the places available are largely insufficient for residents and double-row parking becomes the norm with cars blocked even for dozens and tens of minutes. After all, the attention over the years for the parking problem has been concentrated mainly on the central areas, ranging from the Crescent to Piazza della Concordia, but with the new seaside life in the eastern area it is time to intervene in these areas as well. With the development towards Torrione del nourishment, it must be remembered, the influx of people will increase more and more and if you want many tourists, good for the city, and that the Salerno themselves bathe on their beaches, it is necessary to equip the relative ones, including parking and public transport.
The Citizens’ Committee. «There is a double problem in the whole eastern area, especially between Pastena and Mercatello – he stresses Ornella Parisi, president of the Mercatello district committee – The first concerns the chronic lack of car parking spaces for residents, which have become largely insufficient for their needs. Added to this is the presence of people who come from outside Salerno to whom a parking area must be offered. The second problem is the vertical fall of the public transport service ». The president explains: «BusItalia line 12, for example, no longer serves the Carmine in a widespread manner and to get to the eastern area you have to take more means, so many prefer to use the car. The same goes for the connections between the western area and Mercatello, for which there is only line 5. Once, especially in summer, many people got off the buses to go to the beach: today they are very few because despite the new buses, beautiful and with air conditioning, since there are few, people do not take them and arrive here by private car ».
