Mainland Tourists Visiting Hong Kong During Lunar New Year Exceed 2018 Levels
According to the latest reports from the Hong Kong SAR government, the number of mainland tourists visiting Hong Kong during the first four days of the lunar new year holiday exceeded the levels of the same period in 2018. From February 10 to February 13, approximately 750,000 tourists visited Hong Kong, with about 650,000 being mainland tourists. This figure was higher than the approximately 640,000 mainland tourists who visited during the same period in 2018.
In addition, there were about 1,200 inbound tour groups from the mainland, bringing in approximately 40,500 tourists. These numbers also surpassed the levels from before the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an interview, Yang Yunxiong, Secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Hong Kong SAR Government, stated that the number of tourists visiting Hong Kong during the Spring Festival holiday was in line with the government’s expectations and has gradually returned to pre-pandemic levels. Large-scale events during the holiday, including the float parade, fireworks display, horse racing, and football match, were popular, with participation numbers exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
The SAR government is committed to organizing more events to attract tourists and will continue to improve tourism facilities. They also welcome visitors to enjoy Hong Kong’s scenery and participate in major events in the Greater Bay Area.
During the holiday, tourist attractions and facilities such as Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disneyland, Peak Tram, Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car, and the West Kowloon Cultural District were bustling, with the overall occupancy rate of Hong Kong hotels reaching 90%.
The SAR government and relevant industry sectors will continue to actively attract and welcome tourists to Hong Kong during the remaining days of the Spring Festival holiday.
