ODERZO. The Oderzo hospital inaugurates the new Oncology on Monday. The renovated and enlarged department sees the light. It will be baptized by the president of the Veneto, Luca Zaia, who is expected for the ribbon cutting. The accommodation of the oncology unit, announced in 2019, was achieved by making a series of improvements to the ward, making it more spacious and equipped with the latest generation technologies. The number of stations for administering chemotherapy also doubled, from four to a dozen.

“We wanted to start the refurbishment work to give the Opitergino-Mottense patients the opportunity to have a point of reference for anti-cancer treatments close to home,” says Ulss Director General Francesco Benazzi. We also worked on the comfort of the common areas, the spaces for users in the waiting room and the day hospital. Thanks to this operation, those residing in the territories of Oderzo and Motta will not be forced to refer in large part to the Ca ‘Foncello hospital in Treviso, making long trips to obtain treatment. The procedure for taking charge of patients with a diagnosis of cancer can therefore be managed entirely in Oderzo, with the exception of rare or highly complex neoplasms, for which the provincial reference is the Treviso hospital.

“The investment to modernize the Oderzo Oncology”, continues the CEO Benazzi, “is part of a much broader plan that will lead us to revolutionize the hospital thanks to funds from the PNRR”.

On the table 20 million euros, intervention will be made on the first aid, intensive care will be strengthened, and the center for medically assisted procreation will be focused on. Also planned is the demolition of the former Pagani residence for the elderly, closed since 2015 and owned by the Ulss 2. The races will start by March 2023 and the works must be completed by 2026. “It will be a race against time”, concludes Benazzi, “but we have a beautiful design that will lead the Oderzo hospital to become more modern and avant-garde”.
