Designed by Francesca Filippi, the intervention is the result of a documentary research Mayor Alliod: “We are sure that visitors will appreciate the visit itinerary”

GRESSONEY-SAINT-JEAN. It presents itself best to tourists, in a renewed look and with a new layout, the Savoia castle in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. In fact, the restoration and preparation works of the new visit itinerary were completed and presented in recent days, which took three years.

Designed by architect Francesca Filippi, author of the book Castel Savoia in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, the intervention is the result of documentary research in the historical archives of Turin, Rome and Florence and in the cphotographic collections of the Curtaz-Guindani family of Gressoney-Saint-Jean and of the Sin Biella.

The ancient stone entrance is the starting point of a path that leads to the great hall, dominated by the spiral staircase and by Giuseppe Bertini’s painting which portrays the sovereign in Gressoney’s costume. The visit continues in the dining room. The furnishings are enriched by a piano donated by the baron’s heirs, some furniture granted by the Lateltin family, chests, tables and chairs originally from Castel Savoia but found in the Sarre manor and a telephone of the time that connected all the rooms. of the castle. On the second floor, the queen’s bedroom and the bathroom, already equipped with running water, have been rearranged, and ends in the two new museum rooms where some period shots of the construction of the castle and the transfers of the queen in the Valle del Lys, belonging to the Guindani and Fondazione Sella collections.

The mayor of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Mattia Alliod, is satisfied: “As a municipal administration – he observes – we are very happy that the regional administration constantly invests resources in our precious castle and we are sure that the numerous visitors will greatly appreciate the new visit route “.

The new rearrangement is the result of teamwork that involved competent regional structures, the Superintendence for cultural heritage and activities, directed by Cristina De La Pierre and Francesca Filippi.

For the regional councilor for tourism Jean-Pierre Guichardaz, the Savoy Castle, thus renovated, represents «a further piece of our cultural offer, which can bring into your homes the idea of a region that knows how to welcome and communicate its goods in the broader perspective of a Valle d’Aosta brand that – he concludes – can be increasingly attractive outside of here ».

Destination of hundreds of visitors every week, the Savoy Castle, the famous summer residence of Queen Margherita of Savoy, was built between 1899 and 1904.

It can be visited in summer every day, from 9 to 19.

The entrance ticket is 5 euros (reduced 3.50 euros). With the experimental promotion launched by the Regional Department of Culture, the site, like the other castles managed by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, offers free admission for young people aged 0 to 25. Amelio Ambrosi
