As part of the project to strengthen the energy distribution capacity in large cities in the interior, the Minister Delegate in charge of Energy and Mines, Mila Mawunyo Aziablé launched the Tinga Fund in two cities this 09 March 2024, notably in Sokodé and Blitta.

In the Central region, particularly in Sokodé and Blitta, the Fund will further boost access to electricity as well as all the economic and social benefits generated by the implementation of the project.

Tinga is a presidential initiative which aims to facilitate access for vulnerable populations to electricity connection at a greatly reduced initial cost. Low-income populations can connect to the network, against payment of an initial amount of 1000 FCFA with the possibility of paying off over a period ranging from four years for the well-off to ten years for the less well-off. It is part of the government’s vision of universal access by 2030. To be a beneficiary, you must live 60 meters around the last CEET post and pay the entry ticket. Thus, by 2030, the government hopes to facilitate the connection of 1,200. 000 households throughout the country.

Since its pilot phase started in April 2022, to date, it is reported, around 42,000 households or nearly 300,000 people have been affected by the Tinga Fund, thus increasing the rate of access to electricity by around 10% in each of the three regions which are already beneficiaries (Savanes, Kara and Plateaux).

The project, in general, aims, among other things, to improve the distribution of electrical energy to the consumer, eliminate uncontrolled connections and increase the rate of electrification in the areas concerned (urban and peri-urban towns of Dapaong, Kara, Sokodé, Atakpamé, Kpalimé and Aného).
