Heavy snowfall will reach the islands this evening, which will spread across Estonia during the night. The south-east and south winds will strengthen mainly on islands and coasts. Snowfall and blizzard conditions will continue tomorrow, making road conditions difficult.
Road conditions across Estonia will be very difficult tonight and tomorrow. In rain and wind, roads become very slippery and visibility is poor. Additional snow is expected to be 5-10 cm, in places up to 15 cm. Temperatures remain below zero.
The Transport Board asks that you reserve significantly more time for tomorrow’s morning and afternoon journeys than usual. In rainy areas, the permitted driving speed must be significantly reduced, a longer than usual distance must be maintained and the braking distance must be significantly extended.
Depending on the difficult road conditions, major traffic jams are also likely on the Tallinn ring road and on the entrance roads of Tallinn during the morning rush hour tomorrow. By tomorrow evening, the rain will move to the east and the road conditions will improve.
We ask road users to take into account that the maximum permitted driving speed is not an obligation and is not suitable for driving in windy, heavy snowfall and slippery conditions.
