These streets will be closed during the elections on February 4 – Diario La Huella

In a press conference held on Friday, February 2, authorities of the Government of El Salvador provided information on the vehicular device and street closures planned for the presidential and legislative elections that will take place on February 4. Nelson Reyes, Vice Minister of Transportation, reported: “This day we are expanding the information about the different devices that we are going to have for the elections on February 4.”

The Vice Ministry of Transportation (VMT) reported that traffic managers will be deployed throughout the country to guarantee road safety and maintain fluid circulation during the elections. Reyes added that the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) requested the Vice Ministry of Transportation for authorization to close certain streets where ballot boxes will be installed.

According to Reyes, a total of nine streets will be closed exclusively for the installation of ballot boxes. “In these streets all the personnel who will be attending to the Salvadorans who are going to meet to exercise their right to vote will be installed,” explained the vice minister.

Street closures are scheduled from February 3 at 8:00 am to noon on February 5. “The closure of these streets or the restrictions that are going to be established have to be done before election day and one day after they end,” Reyes pointed out, ensuring that most of the closed streets are secondary, minimizing the impact on the mobilization of people by having alternative routes.

Authorities also provided detailed information on which streets will be closed, both before and on election day, to facilitate planning and mobilization of citizens during this crucial democratic process.
