Starting today, two of the three increases scheduled for 2024 in toll rates for vehicles circulating through the national territory will come into effect, managed by the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and the National Roads Institute (INVIAS). , as proposed by the Ministry of Transportation.
This is an increase of 13.12%, corresponding to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the period 2022. The reason behind this increase dates back to 2023, when the country decided not to apply the adjustment of 13, 12% that corresponded. The second increase, related to the surcharge to the Road Safety Fund (Fosevi), will be approximately $500 pesos. The third increase, of 9.28%, reflects 2023 inflation, although the exact date of its implementation has not yet been specified. It is expected to be in June.
The main objective of Fosevi is to guarantee safety on national roads, seeking to minimize road risks and accidents. However, the imposition of this additional surcharge has sparked controversy, with some arguing that the financial burden falls disproportionately on drivers, without offering an obvious improvement in road conditions. Meanwhile, drivers and transportation business owners are preparing to face the additional financial challenges posed by this double increase in tolls in Colombia.
