Despite the fact that in recent days the price of coffee has risen thanks to the lack of supply of robusta coffee in the world market, especially from Vietnam, the main exporter of this variety. This situation has generated an increase in the demand for Arabica coffee, the type of coffee exported by Colombia, which has boosted the price of Contract C on the New York Stock Exchange, positively impacting the internal reference price of coffee in the country. .

However, in the current context, the coffee growers assure that they still have problems in the change in the interest rates of the loans they requested, in addition to the effects they have had thanks to the extension of the summer and being able to dialogue with the National government, the state of coffee cooperatives: “All these aspects are linked to being able to have an entry condition through price or also having a broad policy of lending to producers so that they can make fertilizers, zoca or renovate coffee plantations. with interest rates that are different,” said Óscar Gutiérrez, executive director of Dignidad Cafetera y Agropecuaria.

Starting at 8:00 am, from different sectors of the country, coffee growers from Risaralda, Caldas, Quindío, Cauca, Tolima, Huila, Santander, Antioquia and Valle del Cauca will carry out this sit-in in order to provide the resources that this sector needs. of agriculture.

During the Specialty Coffee Expo 2024 in Chicago, Risaralda coffees managed to stand out worldwide. The exhibition featured the presence of eight profiles, among which the ’14 star coffee’ or ‘Natural Paisa’, stood out as the best qualified in the cupping panel made up of experts. Juan Carlos Toro, Secretary of Agricultural Development of Risaralda, expressed his satisfaction with the success achieved at the fair: “It is very positive to see the recognition that the coffees of our department and the coffee region have had in an event of this magnitude. Our cafes have impressed experts, and the response from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. This shows the potential and quality we have to offer the world. The fact that four of the seven coffees evaluated were from Risaralda highlights the quality and prestige of our beans.”
