Tourist tax, collections collapse: 1.6 million ready for the ten municipalities of the Fvg

UDINE. In 2020, the collection of the tourist tax in the municipalities of Friuli Venezia Giulia fell by 38% overall, from 4.5 million euros to 2.8 million.

This is certified by the latest study by the North East Think Tank Foundation, according to which 2021 is the year of the restart for the tourism sector of the Fvg, but it will take time to recover the volume of pre-Covid arrivals and presences, but also to return to the 2019 tourist tax revenue level.

Among the main localities – explains a note from the foundation -, the most significant decline was recorded in Grado, where revenues fell from almost one million euros to just over half a million (-47.5%). The decline in Trieste is almost similar, with revenues falling from almost 1.8 million euros to less than one million (-46.5%).

In Lignano, on the other hand, the decrease was more contained, but it went from over 1.5 million euros to less than 1.2 million (-25.4%).

Collections in Duino Aurisina almost zeroed (-98.6%), Aquileia marks -43.9%, while the increases recorded in Carnia are due to the introduction of the tax in mid-2019. having introduced the tax: in these municipalities it is worth on average between 4% and 5% of tax revenues, with peaks of almost 9%.

To cope with the decrease in receipts, the Government has decided to intervene, allocating 350 million euros (last year in total they were 400) as partial reimbursement of the lower income deriving from the tourist tax.

The first tranche of contributions, equal to 250 million euros, was divided on the basis of the actual loss of revenue recorded by the Municipalities in the period March 2020-February 2021, compared to the previous twelve months.

The municipalities of Friuli Venezia Giulia have obtained almost 1.6 million euros from the state, a figure that covers 35.4% of the receipts in 2019, before the pandemic. This is an important allocation, which will be supplemented by a second (but smaller) tranche of contributions by the end of October.

The largest share of the state contributions goes to the Municipality of Trieste, which obtains more than 800 thousand euros. The allocation of resources is also significant for the seaside resorts: about 385 thousand euros go to Grado, while almost 300 thousand euros go to Lignano.

The share of contributions destined for the other municipalities is more contained: Duino Aurisina receives around 34 thousand euros, Aquileia almost 16 thousand, Arta Terme 14 thousand, while Forni di Sopra, Forni Avoltri, Sauris and Ravascletto get a total of 9 thousand euros.

«The contributions allocated by the Government are important – commented Antonio Simeoni, vice president of the North East Think Tank Foundation – because they will allow the most touristic municipalities of the region to continue their plan of interventions in the field of tourism, relying on“ certain ”resources.

However, it is essential that the purpose of the tourist tax is respected: a purpose tax established precisely to support the tourism sector ». –
