RAVENNA – He died after saving the life of a child who risked drowning in the sea. He tragedy in Lido Adriano, in the Ravenna area. Bruno Padovani, 82 years old from Nogara, widower, had arrived on the Riviera last Saturday with her daughter Paola and in the afternoon he went down to the beach with her. At one point the two heard the screams coming from the kids in the water. He threw himself into the sea along with other swimmers, while his daughter went to call another person from their group, an experienced swimmer. When the woman returned she saw several people collapsing on the shoreline after rescuing the children, including the father who died.
It happened after 6.30pm. The children, between 8 and 10 years old, belonging to a group of Maghrebi origin, ran into the water as soon as they arrived at the beach, despite the waves, the wind and the red flag. At that time there was no rescue service. The four, three females and one male, immediately went into trouble. Several people including Bruno Padovani then did their utmost to help them, succeeding. He was unable to make it, however, the eighty-year-old rescuer. “My father has always been like this even in life, he worked for many years in the hospital, he was a switchboard operator, a driver: but his great passion was politics: he was councilor for social services, he helped people in difficulty”, daughter’s words.
Another tourist of Bergamo origin who had intervened for the rescue also fell ill, then recovered. On site, in addition to the 118, also firefighters with divers, port authorities and local police.
