A tropical island off the coast of Queensland, Australia, wants to change its name to honor Taylor Swift. To be clear, this is a publicity stunt.
The Australian tourist board is trying to convince Swift to take a week off on one of the paradise islands off the Australian coast between a performance in Australia and a subsequent concert in Singapore. Not only do they offer her and her entourage a free stay, they have also given the island a different name as a publicity stunt: Vlasoff Cay on the Great Barrier Reef temporarily becomes Tay Cay.
Tiny Vlasoff Cay, a stretch of sand located about 40km northeast of Cairns, is known as a slice of paradise on earth.
After Monday night’s final show in Sydney, Swift will next perform in Singapore on Saturday evening, giving her plenty of time for some relaxation.
There’s no guarantee yet that Swift will take the bait, but if she does, an island will expect an influx of tourists.
