Ukraine’s military announced on Friday that it had destroyed a Russian strategic bomber after Russian missiles and drones attacked Ukrainian cities. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the AFP and Reuters agencies.

“Anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, in cooperation with Ukrainian military intelligence, for the first time destroyed a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber, a carrier of Ch-22 missiles, which Russian terrorists use when attacking Ukrainian cities,” said the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, on the Telegram social network.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Friday morning that a Tupolev Tu-22M3 bomber crashed after completing a combat mission while returning to its home airport in the Stavropol region in southwestern Russia.

Eugene Korda’s explanation

So far, only Ukrainians claim it. Russia says the bomber crashed due to a malfunction and four crew members ejected, while a search is underway for one of them. The question is who is telling the truth, but after experience so far, it is possible that it is not the Ukrainians who are lying, but the Russian army. In any case, it is good that one of the bombers that destroyed cities and villages in Ukraine is permanently grounded.

.update – one crew member died

One crew member of the Russian Tu-22M3 bomber that crashed on Friday in southwestern Russia was killed. This was announced by the governor of the Stavropol Region, Vladimir Vladimirov, TASR reports, according to an AFP report.
