Claudio Coppe’s sister moved by the amusement park’s gesture of generosity: “I met them all with the mayor to thank them in person”
VALDOBBIADENE. He had bought the flowers to put them on the scene of the accident which cost his brother his life, but someone destroyed them. The carouselers of the nearby amusement park took care of the damage and organized a collection to buy back the flowers. A happy ending for the bad episode that took place on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. The woman, moved, went to thank the carouselers accompanied by the mayor Luciano Fregonese.
“I thank the friends of the amusement park also on behalf of our family for the idea they had and for the great act of generosity”, commented Rosita Coppe, “I was excited when I saw the flowers back in their place”.
His brother Claudio “Caio” Coppe, on March 15, 2005, then 34 years old, was hit by a van between the Venanzio Fortunato and Caduti streets of Nassirya. A terrible fate, which took place precisely in the days of the Antica Fiera di San Gregorio. For him, unfortunately, there was no escape. To keep the memory alive, the friends had placed a photo and a plaque at the site of the tragedy, with a container in which to place the flowers. “I take them to that place every year. The flowers are specially prepared by me and by Claudio’s friends », says his sister Rosita,« I don’t know who could have done such an act, certainly a person who is not lucid, perhaps in the grip of alcohol ». The rite of remembrance was renewed every year. Inside the bouquet of flowers, Claudio’s friends always inserted a glass of beer and a cigarette, to remember two things dear to him. The carouselers knew the story of Claudio and also his sister who, on San Gregorio Sunday, brings the flowers on time to the accident site, to move them on Tuesday afternoon to the grave in the cemetery.
Disturbed by what happened, they made a collection and bought back the same flower arrangement that had been destroyed. On the bunch of flowers to remember “Caio”, the exhibitors of the traveling shows have put a ribbon with the words: “Friends of the funfair”. A gesture that moved not only the Coppe family and friends of Caio, but the whole country.
