In Custody Death Confirmed by El Paso Police
The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) has confirmed that a man died after an incident on Sunday afternoon in the South Central area of El Paso was an “in-custody death.” The man has been identified as Jonathan Rose Eddens, 35.
The “critical incident” took place at 3:15 p.m. in the 3300 block of Alameda, where Eddens was reportedly weaving in and out of traffic. He was later taken to the hospital where he ultimately passed away.
Video footage captured by bystanders shows police chasing Eddens and eventually subduing him to the ground. The EPPD’s Crimes Against Persons Unit, the Texas Rangers, and the Internal Affairs Division are currently investigating the incident.
